Barry R. Pittendrigh, Entomologist:

Special Interests: Biology and behavior of insect pests of stored grain, especially cowpeas and bruchid beetles; molecular basis and population genetics of resistance in insects to pesticides and transgenic insecticidal compounds; Maruca population genetics; development of resistance management strategies; vulnerable physiological and biochemical systems in insects, insect digestive physiology, genetic engineering of plants for insect resistance; African agriculture; and Genomics Extension.

Position: Associate Professor of Entomology, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA; Primary Investigatgor of of the WA5 Bean/Cowpea Collaborative Research Support Program (CRSP) Project; Co-principal Investigator of a USAID/Washington/IITA project dealing with biodiversity and biosafety as related to Bt cowpea; Co-Principal Investigator of a USDA National Research Initiative Grant studying the genomics and proteomics of the digestive system of Callosobruchus maculatus (cowpea bruchid); Principal Investigator of an NIH funded grant on molecular basis of pesticide resistance; Principal Investigator on NIH-funded body louse genome project.
