Mosquito Species and Their Numbers in 2005
The rainfall pattern and limited amounts of rain during summer 2005 in Tippecanoe county resulted in relatively very few nuisance mosquitoes and vector mosquitoes. We experienced almost no habitats that supported development of larvae of floodwater mosquitoes. Our streams did not overflow and rain water that collected in soil depressions dried up before Aedes and Psorophora eggs hatched. Our survey of habitats that supported the development of Culex larvae in recent years either were dry or didn't have larvae throughout most of the summer. Collections of both adult nuisance and vector mosquitoes were relatively very low all summer. Information regarding mosquitoes in year 2006 will be forthcoming.
