Bagworms overwinter as eggs inside
wingless females. Females remain in bags their entire lives.

Up to 1000 caterpillars can hatch from each
overwintering bagworm female. At first bags are small and difficult to
see. Caterpillars cover themselves with freshly cut foliage as they feed.
