David Hogenkamp, Entomology Post Doc passes away

David George Hogenkamp, 30, of West Lafayette, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at his residence.

Born June 16, 1976, in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada, he had resided in West Lafayette for seven months and had previously resided in Ogden, Kan., and Fort Riley, Kan.

He married Theresa Still on July 22, 1999, in Ogden, and she survives.

Mr. Hogenkamp graduated from Brock University at St. Catharines, Ontario, with a degree in biochemistry and received a doctorate in biochemistry from Kansas State University. He had served as a postdoctoral research associate in the department of entomology at Purdue University since June 2006.

He was a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in West Lafayette and had served in the Army from 1998 to 2002, earning a rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Entomology Society of America, a Cub Master with his son's Scout group in Ogden, and was an assistant baseball coach. He enjoyed traveling.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Tyler John Hogenkamp and Jacob Ryan Still, at home; his father, John Hogenkamp; mother and stepfather, Georgia and Don Willson; a twin brother, John Hogenkamp (wife: Victoria) of Ontario; a stepsister, Denise Willson (husband: Jeff) of Ontario; and a stepbrother, Jamie Willson (wife: Nicole) of Ontario.

He enjoyed spending time with his family. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home, Father Daniel Davis officiating, with visitation 1 hour prior. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery in Ogden, Kan. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law, Ann Still of Ogden, KS. Memorials to the American or Canadian Cancer Society.
