WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Hoosiers concerned about what emerald ash borer might mean for their trees and neighborhoods can get information about the state's plans and various treatment and replacement options at an IP video conference on March 29.

The free videoconference, hosted by the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, is scheduled for 9:30-11:30 a.m. (EST) at 19 locations throughout the state.

"Now that Indiana isn't cutting down ash trees around known infestations, it really becomes the responsibility of municipalities, utility companies and private residents to determine how they're going to deal with EAB," said Jodie Ellis, the exotic insects education coordinator at Purdue. "This event can give people the information they need to make those decisions."

Discussions about tree replacement, disposal and treatment options are on the agenda, as are presentations detailing the EAB overview and insecticide research. Specialists from Purdue's departments of entomology and forestry and natural resources, along with representatives from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, will lead the event.

Ellis said green industry professionals, foresters, utility workers and municipal officials also should attend the videoconference. Registration is not required.

"We've been getting a lot of questions about emerald ash borer and what people should do," Ellis said. "We think this event will answer a lot of those questions."
