Registration for Summer classes begins Feb. 1 

The Office of the Provost is moving registration for summer classes to Feb. 1 to allow more time for student planning. Students will be able to begin registration as early as 8 a.m. Feb. 1, beginning with priority registration groups. Registration by classification will continue in the following four weeks according to the posted online schedule.

Each weekly time ticket group starts at 8 a.m. on Monday and releases permissions in increments of 20 minutes. Each student's registration pin is the same as the one used for spring 2016 registration. Open registration for all registration groups will start at 8 a.m. March 7.

 Join Ag Week Farm Team!

The Purdue Ag Week Task Force is pleased to announce that the 2016 Farm Team Application is now open and available to all students in the College of Agriculture.  Farm Team Members assist Task Force in the planning and execution of Ag Week events with the intention of becoming full members of Task Force during the following academic year.

All College of Agriculture students who enjoy engaging with others regarding modern agricultural practices are encouraged to apply.  All applications are due to AGAD 111 by 5 p.m. on November 23rd.

Farm Team Application

On-Farm Paid Internship Opportunity

Purdue University is accepting applications for six paid internships for currently enrolled students during summer 2016 on small acreage vegetable and flower farms across Indiana. The student can be enrolled at any community college, college, or university. Each intern will be paired with a farmer mentor and will receive $3500 for working part-time (20 hours per week) for twelve weeks.  The internship is part of a Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension (SARE) funded project, Biochar-Student Mentoring and Participatory Learning (B-SMPL). 

The participating farms are located in the following areas: Lowell or Demotte in NW Indiana, Spencer or Freedom/Spencer in SW Indiana or Noblesville/Anderson or Lafayette in Central Indiana. Preference will be given to applicants attending an Indiana college or university.  Successful applicants must be able to engage in physical labor, work outside, and provide their own transportation to and from the farm.

OEPP will offer ENGL 620 Proffesional development section in spring 2016

The Oral English Proficiency Program (OEPP) will be running one section of our ENGL 620 Professional Development course this Spring 2016.  This section will focus on student needs as they go on the job market – resume/CVs, job searching, professional group discussions, interviews, social rules of conduct in the working world, etc. There will also be content about presentations like in the regular ENGL 620 course, but the focus will be for a professional/work environment setting.

 

This class is open to international graduate students currently enrolled at Purdue who have been certified for oral English proficiency.  This means one or more of the following:

1.       TOEFL Speaking Score of 27 and above

2.       IELTS Speaking Score of 8 and above

3.       Passed the OEPT with a score of 50 and above

4.       Certified by taking ENGL 620

Scholarships & Awards

Student award for the appreciation for the natural history of insects

Student award “Appreciation for the Natural History of Insect Pests”.

The award: $500 awarded annually to one recipient.

Who is eligible: University students regardless of their geographic location.

Due date: December 31st 2015

Selection criteria and conditions: The committee will award $500 to the student who in the given year has published the most interesting and inspiring research paper on insects which are usually regarded as pests. For details, please see: http://www.ambrosiasymbiosis.org/award/

U. of Wisconsin-Platteville Graduate School Scholarship

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Distance Learning Center has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to fund multiple scholarships for full-time students pursuing online graduate degrees in STEM fields, including Project Management, Engineering, or Integrated Supply Chain Management.

 

Applicants may qualify for up to $10,000 in scholarship funding and access to specialized career and class mentoring as they earn their online master’s degree. To be eligible, students must be a new admit to their online graduate program and have a minimum 3.0 GPA or higher from a STEM undergraduate degree. Scholarships will be awarded over the next five years, beginning with the spring 2016 semester. The priority registration deadline for this semester is December 1, 2015. Study Abroad

Study abroad in cuba 2016

Faculty from the departments of Entomology, Horticulture and Ag Economics will lead a study aboard trip to Cuba next year over spring break. Students can learn more about this program next week at the College of Agriculture Study Abroad Fair on September 29th on the lawn in front of the AGAD building from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
