Join Ag Week Farm
Team!
The Purdue Ag Week Task Force is pleased to announce that the
2016 Farm Team Application is now open and available to all students in the
College of Agriculture. Farm Team Members assist Task Force in the
planning and execution of Ag Week events with the intention of becoming full
members of Task Force during the following academic year. All College of Agriculture students who enjoy engaging with
others regarding modern agricultural practices are encouraged to apply.
All applications are due to AGAD 111 by 5 p.m. on November 23rd. On-Farm Paid
Internship Opportunity
Purdue University is accepting applications for six paid
internships for currently enrolled students during summer 2016 on small
acreage vegetable and flower farms across Indiana. The student can be
enrolled at any community college, college, or university. Each intern will
be paired with a farmer mentor and will receive $3500 for working part-time
(20 hours per week) for twelve weeks. The internship is part of a
Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension (SARE) funded project,
Biochar-Student Mentoring and Participatory Learning (B-SMPL). The participating farms are located in the following areas:
Lowell or Demotte in NW Indiana, Spencer or Freedom/Spencer in SW Indiana or
Noblesville/Anderson or Lafayette in Central Indiana. Preference will be
given to applicants attending an Indiana college or university.
Successful applicants must be able to engage in physical labor, work outside,
and provide their own transportation to and from the farm. If interested, please contact Dr. Tamara Benjamin (tamara17@purdue.edu)

Student award for the appreciation for the natural history
of insects
Student
award “Appreciation for the Natural History of Insect Pests”. The
award: $500 awarded annually to one
recipient. Who
is eligible: University students
regardless of their geographic location. Due

will award $500 to the student who in the given year has published the most
interesting and inspiring research paper on insects which are usually

Wisconsin-Platteville Graduate School Scholarship
The
University of Wisconsin-Platteville Distance Learning Center has received a
grant from the National Science Foundation to fund multiple scholarships for
full-time students pursuing online graduate degrees in STEM fields, including
Project Management, Engineering, or Integrated Supply Chain Management. Applicants
may qualify for up to $10,000 in scholarship funding and access to
specialized career and class mentoring as they earn their online master’s
degree. To be eligible, students must be a new admit to their online graduate
program and have a minimum 3.0 GPA or higher from a STEM undergraduate

beginning with the spring 2016 semester. The priority registration deadline

Study Abroad
Study abroad in
cuba 2016
Faculty from the departments of
Entomology, Horticulture and Ag Economics will lead a study aboard trip to
Cuba next year over spring break. Students can learn more about this program
next week at the College of Agriculture Study Abroad Fair on September
29th on the lawn in front of the AGAD building from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Please see the flyer and
