Departmental Scholarships were sent to awardees last week.

·         If you have a sponsor listed, please get your Thank You note sent out asap, with a copy to Amanda (apendle@purdue.edu)

·         Complete your Bio form and email to Amanda by September 8th.  These forms will be sent to your scholarship sponsor.

·         Notify Amanda if you will have a guest at the luncheon January 10th

The Department of Entomology invites you to help connect non-scientists with bugs by volunteering through our outreach program. In September, we have 3 events scheduled:

Noon to 3 pm (transportation provided if needed; free snacks!)

 

Wednesday, September 13th

Rainbow Callout

On Campus; 6pm to 8pm

Ag Explorers High School Program

On Campus; 5pm to 6:30pm

 

If you can help with any of these programs, just send Gwen Pearson an email: gpearso@purdue.edu.  If you’re a total beginner to insect outreach, no worries. Gwen will be there with you to help out.

ENTOMOLOGY FALL PICNIC!  September 6, 2017

SMITH HALL – EAST LAWN: 11:30 AM- 1:00 PM Welcome our NEW STUDENTS (Spring 2017, Summer 2017 and Fall 2017).  New students will receive their Department of Entomology T-shirt at the picnic.  Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students:  It’s a POTLUCK event – Bring your favorite dish to share.  The department will provide BBQ sandwiches, vegetarian wraps, baked beans, cole slaw, tea and lemonade.

 

 

 

ENTOMOLOGY UNDERGRADUATE CAPSTONE FORUM FALL 2017

 

The Fall Semester 2017 Undergraduate Capstone Forum is scheduled for Thursday, December 7 (tentatively from 3:30-5:00 pm) in 116 WSLR. Successful completion of the capstone experience, including an oral presentation, and a written paper or poster, is a departmental requirement for graduation. Please see the ENTM 49300 course website and syllabus for further information: https://ag.purdue.edu/entm/pages/entm-493.aspx

 

  • It is the responsibility of each student to email the title of their capstone presentation to Dr. Richmond no later than November 10th if they intend to make their presentation during Fall Semester 2017. A final schedule for the capstone forum will be available the following week. 

 

  • Capstone presentations should be limited to 12 minutes with an additional 3 minutes for questions.

 

  • All students planning to participate in the Fall Semester Capstone Forum should be enrolled in ENTM 49300 during Fall Semester. After consulting your capstone mentor for advice on credit hours (1-3), please see Amanda Pendleton to register using the course registration number (CRN) of your capstone mentor.

If you require special technical assistance with AV or computer equipment for your presentation Please contact the AgIT help desk at least one week in advance of the Forum. By default, the capstone forum will be set-up with a computer and LCD projector. Student Lab Technician – Entomology Post Harvest Laboratory

Dr. Richmond’s Laboratory will be hiring a couple part time students to help with:

1.    Evaluation of next generation chemistries against soil-dwelling scarab larve

2.    Development of biological controls for black cutworms

In addition, he will be hire several students for one or two days of work harvesting scarab larvae from infested soil.

The Landscape Ecology & Biodiversity lab has an opening for an undergraduate part-time research assistant during Fall 2017.  Duties include sample processing, insect identification, and data entry.  Applicant should have completed ENTM 206+207.  Completion of ENTM 335+336 is desirable. 

Applicants should be able to work 10–15 hours a week. Pay is $10/hour.

Fall 2017 AG Career Fair! Save the Date!!  october 3, 2017

Mark your calendars and plan to attend! The fair is open to all students and alums at Purdue and Ivy Tech.​

 

The Career Fair is not just for graduating students, it is for freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are exploring career paths or internship opportunities. The Career Fair is a great way to explore careers, pick-up company information and network with future employers and ask questions. The only person who can get you a job or an internship is you.

 

October 2, 2017- get ready for the career fair at the Resume Blitz, 11:00- 1:00 and 1:00 – 3:00, and the Employer panel 5:30-7:00 pm. Locations TBA.

ENTM 60000 NEW GRADUATE STUDENT ORIENTATION NEW TIME AND LOCATION

If you are a new graduate student in the department, you should enroll in ENTM 60000. 

The course will meet on Tuesdays at 4:00 – 5:50 PM in the Smith Hall, room 131.  August 22nd we will meet for orientation class and dismiss to attend the Fire Fly Social.  If you need transportation, please let me or Christian Krupke know asap.

§  Sunday, August 20, 2017: Plan of Study Deadline

The plan of study must be submitted by the student, signed by all advisory committee members and all appropriate departmental staff, and awaiting only Graduate School processing by 11:59 p.m. on this date for the student to be eligible for candidacy for fall.

 

§  Wednesday, September 20, 2017: Candidacy Deadline

 

§  Friday, October 13, 2017: Final Exam and Deposit Deadline for CAND 99200/99300 Registrants

 

§  Friday, December 1, 2017: Final Exam Deadline for CAND 99100 Registrants

Students who miss any of the deadlines in red may incur a $200 Late Graduation Deadline Fee if they would like to maintain their candidate status for the fall session. Candidates who request to make updates to an already deposited thesis or dissertation, or who have been listed on the candidate roster for the same degree more than two consecutive sessions, may also incur this fee.
