 Friday, April 22nd: Final Exam Deadline for General Candidacy (CAND 99100) Registrants

 

 Friday, April 29th: Thesis Deposit Deadline for General Candidacy (CAND 99100) Registrants

 

Friday, May 13th, 4:00 p.m. ET: Graduate School Commencement (All Schools and Colleges)

 

Doctoral candidates must have passed the preliminary examination by May 9th, 2015, to be eligible for Spring 2016 graduation. All of the deadlines for Spring, Summer, and Fall 2016 are now available on the Graduation Deadlines Calendar webpage.

 

Students who miss any of the deadlines in red may incur a $200 Late Graduation Deadline Fee if they would like to maintain their candidate status for Spring 2016. Candidates who request to make updates to an already deposited thesis or dissertation or who have been listed on the Graduate School’s candidate roster for the same degree more than two consecutive sessions may also incur this fee.

Apply to be an Ag Ambassador!

The Ag Ambassadors are a group of undergraduate students in agriculture who serve as official representatives of the College of Agriculture at public functions hosted by the college, administration and the Agricultural Alumni Association. The Ambassadors are our College’s lead prospective student recruiters. Please see the info sheet for more information and how to apply before March 15.

Undergraduate Research & Poster Symposium

Mark your calendars for this year’s Undergraduate Research and Poster Symposium.  It’s scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms.  To enter your research or scholarly project posters into the symposium, you need to apply by March 11th at www.purdue.edu/research/ugrad

Creating & Presenting an Effective Poster

A poster presentation workshop will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 6:00- 7:30 pm in Pfendler Hall, room 241 (Dean’s Auditorium) for all undergraduate students. If you have or will soon be completing your undergraduate research project, this workshop with Dr. Karen Plaut and senior Bethany Weldon is a must attend event! Pizza and drinks provided!

 Summer Research opportunities for undergrads

·         Molecular Agriculture Summer Institute (MASI): This program is designed to expose undergraduate students to the wide-ranging field of plant sciences and STEM fields.  Applications are due April 1, 2016 and can be found on the website at https://ag.purdue.edu/oap/MASI/Pages/default.aspx.

·         Purdue Ag Center Experience (PACE): PACE is designed to expose undergraduate students who have little to no farm experience to applied research at one of the eight Purdue Agriculture Centers (PACs). Undergrads work with faculty research mentors at one or multiple PACs over the summer.  Apply online at https://ag.purdue.edu/oap/PACE/Pages/default.aspx.

·         Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) – For sophomores and juniors, this paid research experience at Purdue is from May 23 – August 5.  Apply online at www.purdue.edu/surf.

News & Events for Grads

electronic Exam forms

Prelim and final examinations must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance with the graduate school via the plan of study website found on MyPurdue. If the final exam is not scheduled, you cannot graduate. This is in addition to scheduling the exam with Dr. Yaninek.  Summer Registration

Some things to keep in mind as you add your summer research/course hours:

·         69800 and 69900 are scheduled from May 16 through August 2

·         A maximum of 9 credits taken during Summer session are permitted.

·         Graduate staff must be registered for at least 3 credits in at least one of the Summer modules in order to hold their assistantships

Soft Rollout for New Electronic Thesis Acceptance FOrm

The thesis office has announced the soft rollout of the new online Thesis Acceptance Form. Please note that usage of the ETA form will be optional throughout 2016, and the Thesis office will continue to accept paper thesis forms during the soft rollout period. Information about the ETA will be included in the upcoming thesis workshop presentations.

turner pest control scholarship

Turner Pest Control in Jacksonville, Florida is offering a $1,500 scholarship which will be awarded to a student who is enrolled in any university, college, or trade program. The students do not have to be studying entomology or pest management. Information about the scholarship may be found here: http://www.turnerpest.com/scholarship/pest-control-scholarship/. The application deadline is in May 1, 2016.
