Purdue Agriculture recognizes outstanding achievements

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University College of Agriculture honored outstanding students, faculty and staff at its spring awards reception on April 9.

Faculty and staff award recipients are as follows:

  • Kim L. Wilson, associate professor of horticulture and landscape architecture, received the Richard L. Kohls Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award.
  • Kirby Hayes, associate professor of food science, received the David C. Pfendler Outstanding Undergraduate Counselor Award.
  • Bernard Engle, head of the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, received the Outstanding Graduate Educator Award.
  • LeeAnn Williams, academic adviser in the Department of Agricultural Economics, received the Outstanding Service to Students Award.

"The College of Agriculture contains award winning, caring and dedicated faculty and staff members that know their subject matter, are scholars of learning and work outside of the classroom environment in order to engage and encourage students to excel," said Dale Whittaker, associate dean and director of academic programs. "I could not be more proud of our students and the testimony that they provide to the effectiveness of our dedication to teaching and learning."

Student award recipients included:

  • Ryan Crane received the Outstanding Freshman Award in the College of Agriculture. He is the son of James and Brenda Crane of Exeter, Maine, and represents the Department of Agricultural Economics. His activities include Farm Management Club, Purdue Student Government board of directors and Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.
  • Dustin Potts received the Outstanding Sophomore Award in the College of Agriculture. He is the son of Douglas and Donna Potts of Newburgh, Ind. He is majoring in horticultural science and is active in collegiate 4-H.
  • Anne Marie Diener received the Outstanding Junior Award in the College of Agriculture. She is the daughter of John and Georgene Diener of Five Points, Calif. She is involved in the Food Science club, Purdue Foundation Student Board and Old Masters program.
  • Tyler Janovitz received the Outstanding Senior Award in the College of Agriculture. He is the son of Patricia Janovitz of West Lafayette, Ind., and is majoring in entomology and molecular biology. He is active in Golden Key International Honor Society and has conducted research on E. coli over the past five semesters
