Prize Winning Hessian Fly Research Poster

By Steve Yaninek
April 3, 2008

Jacob Shreve an undergraduate student in Biological Sciences got first place in the life sciences for his poster on “Genetic variation of Hessian fly populations from Manitoba Canada”. Jacob did a study addressing the genetic diversity in three Manitoba populations of Hessian flies and how it might relate to the ability of the fly in Canada to overcome resistant wheat. The poster was presented at the undergraduate research symposium held yesterday at the Purdue Memorial Union. Jacob worked primarily with Rich Shukle and collaborated with Brandi Schemerhorn, Philip Morton, and Ian Wise a collaborator from Canada.
