Crop specialists get hands-on experience at training day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - "Training from the Ground Up," is the theme for the 2006 crop diagnostic training day to be held June 20 at the Northeast Purdue University Agricultural Center.

The crop specialist training day, from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., will focus on the finer points of fertility, plant growth and crop development. Aspects of foliar fungicide application, fungicide labels and Asian soybean rust also will be discussed.

Purdue Extension faculty speakers include Bob Neilson, corn specialist; Gary Steinhardt, soil management specialist; Jim Camberato, soil fertility specialist; Greg Shaner, plant pathologist; and Christian Krupke, field crops entomologist.

A total of six continuing education units are available and two continuing credit hours. Pesticide Applicator Recertification Program credit is also available for an additional $10. Checks should be made payable to Purdue CES Educational Fund and mailed to Purdue Extension in Allen County, 4001 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46815.
