Saproxylic insect rearing tubes

There is not much known about many species of dead wood insects. We are using rearing tubes placed outside the lab to determine some basic life history information on these insects such as length of larval period, host wood species, and parasitoids. Each tub holds a short log of dead wood. The design of the rearing tubes allows us to check them daily by simply glancing out the window.

Bio-inventory

Our small property in Indiana contains many different habitats including hardwood forest, pine plantation, orchard, and lawn. We are using several types of insect traps to survey the insects in these habitats in our spare time. Members of the lab will be using similar trapping techniques to survey insects for research, and to provide biological inventory data to collaborators.
