Adult Eclosion...
"Insect Diagnostician and Extension Specialist at Purdue University." This job was right up my alley. It also involved identifying insects but included a research and extension component as well. I applied and I somehow landed the job. We moved our family still further from the Rocky Mountains of Alberta where I grew up. My education had taken us first south to Utah, then east to Kansas and now we were to go even further east to Indiana. I'll always remember my Mothers' comment when I informed her of my acceptance of the job in Indiana. "Tim, you realize that you are not moving any closer to home, .... don't you?" My role as Extension Specialist soon became IPM Extension Specialist as I continued to extend the knowledge and experience that I had gained to various clientele groups. Our extension group at Purdue is well knit and even though the waterfront is very wide, I think we cover it admirably. In 1990 I acquired a formal research component to my job, 75% extension and 25% research. In so doing, I added another 100% work to my already 100% full plate. Only those of us in this particular profession, can figure out 'extension math', i.e. how adding 25% to 75% can come up with 200% of ones time (trust me, it is possible). home |
