IntroductionCowpea production, processing and consumption are a human activities and therefore social sciences are key to understanding and improving them. At Purdue Bean/Cowpea CRSP social science research has focused on cowpea marketing and impact assessment. Some work has gone into the economics of storage technology. As a service to cowpea researchers everywhere the Purdue CRSP website is host to a database of cowpea production and price data. In this effort Purdue collaborates with researchers in Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal. At Clemson University research has focused on economic and social aspects of integrated pest management. At the University of Georgia, Griffin, and the University of Ghana, Legon, research is starting the economics of cowpea processing and the demand for processed cowpea products. As West Africa regional facilitator, Jess Lowenberg-DeBoer, is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Bean/Cowpea CRSP social science work on cowpea. Information on all four aspects of Purdue Bean/Cowpea CRSP economics research is available at this site: Impact Marketing Production |
