Pest Management Practices
IPM includes activities as diverse as writing pest management policies, performing building inspections, reporting pest sightings, caulking and sealing exterior openings, cleaning cluttered areas, selection and use of pesticides and record keeping. In most schools or childcare facilities, these practices will be carried out by a number of different persons, including administrators, custodians, contracted pest control services, teachers and others. Purdue University conducted a survey of K-12 public school corporations in Indiana to: 1) Determine the extent of public school adoption of IPM 2) Identify decision making personnel 3) Assess awareness and implementation of IPM 4) Identify implementation constraints 5) Masure use of educational resources related to IPM. The results of this survey have been analyzed and are now available through the Office of Agricultural Research Programs Bulletin #B17872, entitled "Survey of Indiana Public Schools Pest Management Policies and Practices." The results are very insightful for Professional pest managers and School Officials alike as they prepare to implement IPM. Politicians can also benefit from understanding how widespread the adoption rate is and the constraints impeding further progress. This area of the site provides an overview of all the practices related to IPM. Depending on how an IPM program is set up, different tasks outlined here may be performed by different individuals.
