This leaf has been skeletonized by an elm leaf beetle. The pest only removed the leaf tissue between the veins. | This leaf cutter bee is a beneficial insect and not a pest. It is an important pollinator.
This defoliation is call notching. These irregular notches are typical of leaf notching weevils like black vine weevil. | European pine sawflies removed the young foliage of this pine.
Circular notches are caused by leaf cutter bees. | This European pine sawfly is laying an egg in a Scotch pine needle. Note how its sawlike ovipositor is cutting a slit in the needle and leaving behind a yellow scar. Yellow scars are diagnostic of an infestation. |
