Future Career Plans

To find a place that will let me teach about the wonders of the insect world

Area of Research

My area focuses on Insect Education and Outreach.

Summary of Research

My research evaluates the different types of outreach programming in the department for its impact on student and teacher content knowledge of entomology and their interest in the field.

How You Got Into Entomology

Accidently. I always loved insects and creepy crawlies, but I did not think about it as a career. When getting my Master’s degree in Science and Environmental Education, one of my classes was cancelled so I needed another right away to maintain full time. So I joined an aquatic entomology class just for fun, but soon I was hooked on bugs.

Favorite Insect and Why

The predaceous diving beetle – the adult and larval form. They are amazing to watch, great predators, and aquatic insects will always be my first choice

Hobbies

Reading, gardening, knitting, painting, World of Warcraft, movies, hiking, and canning different foods

Favorite Cookie Flavor

Ricotta cookies – the amazing combination of cheese and sweets

Favorite Movie

Ferngully: The Last Rainforest or The Silence of the Lambs

Favorite Book

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende or The Lorax by Dr. Seuss

Place I Would LIke to Visit in the Future

I would love to see Australia and New Zealand
